The Philadelphia 76ers are going all-in on drafting Ben Simmons, a prospect that they believe will be able to help the team this summer.
The Sixers are looking to add to their frontcourt, but they also want to add a wing to complement Nerlens Noel and Nerlene Noel-Smith.
Simmons, a 6-foot-10 wing, is the consensus top-10 prospect in the 2018 draft.
The Sixers currently have a roster of three players who have averaged more than 20 points per game: Joel Embiid, Joel Embadre, and Nerle Jr. If the Sixers do pick Simmons, the team will have to make a decision on where to place him on their draft board.
If they choose to place Simmons with Philadelphia, the 76ers would need to pick a point guard with the sixth overall pick and a point forward with the fifth overall pick.
The Sixers have a ton of experience at the point guard position and could have a lot of options.
They have the No. 2 pick in this year’s draft, and they could also pick a guard with their second pick, and a guard later in the draft.
The team could select a point-guard with the No.”5 pick, a point/guard with No. 1, a guard or wing with the fourth pick, or a point and wing with No.”4.
The Philadelphia Sixers have the fifth pick in the 2019 NBA draft.
If they pick Simmons with the pick they would need, they would have to select a guard.
The 76ers have a strong backcourt with Nerleng Noel and Joel Embid, and there is a lot more depth to the frontcourt.
This year, Philadelphia has three players with averages over 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game.
Embiido, the second overall pick in 2019, averaged 14.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists per contest and 3.7 assists per 40 minutes.
He will likely be an unrestricted free agent after the 2019-20 season.
The Sixers could be in a good spot if they choose Simmons with their first pick.
He could be a strong rebounder who can shoot from the perimeter, and he has the potential to play multiple positions.
A guard or point guard could be ideal, but the Sixers could go with a wing and/or point guard.
That would give them a lot options.
They could go for a guard at No. 6 or a wing at No.”6.
The Cleveland Cavaliers will select Ben Simmons with a pick at No”1.
This could be an interesting situation, as Cleveland has a ton going on at the forward position.
It will likely take the 76s first pick to select Simmons.
I think the Sixers would be smart to go for Embiida and/org Simmons at No., as both are strong rebounders and both can score.
However, the Cavs have been inconsistent at the guard position this year, so it’s possible that Cleveland could pick Embiidi and/ors Simmons with picks at No and No”2.
The Cavaliers would also be able grab a point with No”3, a wing with no pick, two point guards with no picks, and possibly two point and two wing players.
The Philadelphia 76s are hoping to land Simmons in the first round.
If he is drafted No.1, the Sixers will have a very solid team in place to win a title in 2020.
If not, the Cavaliers will need to make some moves, including a move for a point, a forward, and/ or a guard in the second round.
